Case study with Ribby Hall Holiday Village
Ribby Hall Holiday Village is a 5* holiday village in Lancashire. Established in 1994 it now has over 300 owner occupied static caravans and holiday cottages and welcomes holiday makers all year round and can be occupied by static caravan owners for 10 ½ months of the year. This family run holiday park has grown from a small village to over 100 acres with plans for further expansion in the very near future.
As a busy holiday park welcoming tens of thousands of holiday makers every year, contractors ‘renting’ the holiday cottages for months at a time and owner occupiers who can live on site for up to 10 ½ months of the year, Ribby Hall have found the need for on-site and in caravan Wi-Fi an ever increasing requirement with demand increasing from home owners to provide a service able to meet the needs of their on-site life for work and play in their home from home.
The very nature of the caravan site in that it is remote and was built in a period when Internet access wasn’t needed. We knew that this would be a challenge – it hasn’t been adequately addressed in the sector as of yet. Why not just get fixed lines? Digging up the park on a 100 acre site that is open all year round just isn’t an option, even if you disregard a cost which would easily run in to hundreds of thousands of pounds. Park-wide Wi-Fi, dongles and mobile hotspots are a no go as the caravan essentially creates a Faraday effect and the signal just can’t get in.
The solution wasn’t an easy one. It took months of trial and error and investment from Ribby Hall to allow us to detangle 20 years worth of cable, infrastructure and electrics. The result has received fantastic feedback from customers and staff alike. People are able to work from their caravans without worry, the kids are able access Netflix and Facebook across all their devices and the family can sit and stream their favourite films or TV programmes seamlessly to their smart TV’s. An extra touch? The customers are also able to keep track of their data usage through their own personal dashboard and we, of course, are able to block any sites the customers wish to not have access to through an Internet Watch Foundation compliant filtering system.
Because we have built our solution from the ground up, we have been able to address any challenges head on by being in the unique position to to adapt the technology that we use at any point of process. The end result? A ground breaking solution that grows with needs of the park in a way never seen in the industry, changing the way leisure parks are able to deliver Wi-Fi to their customers.
